Blogging

I would love to be able to add a little something to my blog every day, like I know some people do. Well here is goes, I don't think it will last long though.

Unless I add in the nappy changes and crying episodes from my son George (and there are many of those), I might run out of things to say.

New Year fast approaching

Hello for the last time this year, it's been a busy year in many ways and I expect 2011 to be an even busier one with lots of new art planned.

For now, here is a section of a new painting that I have been busy with. Its called 'breaking clouds', and yes it is not a Hilltown image, its another landscape.

See you all in 2011, all the very best for a great new year.

And now for something a little different...

I've been working on some new landscapes recently, very different to Hilltown I know. I have plans on running these alongside the Hilltown work, as a slightly different offering for people who want an original landscape on their walls.

Here is a pic of one I have just finished today, just needs a signature. More sneek peek images coming very soon.

Don't worry though, there are more new Hilltown images coming soon as well. I've been a busy bee, even with a new baby George to entertain. Bye for now!!

The North East Art Collective

Hello again, and not so long since last entry. That can only be a good thing I think, quite a bit going on at the moment. Trying to juggle newly aquired fatherhood and my art is proving very difficult at the moment, but I'm somehow just about managing.

I was asked a while ago to be part of a new art gallery in Newcastle Upon Tyne called the North East Art collective, well, just the other day they opened their doors to the public and will remain open for a long while we all hope. A big launch is planned for mid November to grab everyone's attention.

The gallery can be found in Eldon Gardens in Eldon Square, Newcaste City Centre. If you are reading this and are not from the region, accept my apologies, this gallery will probably only be for the local folk up here in the North East.

Alongside myself there are about 40 other local artist with work on show, all manner of styles and prices, something for everyone.

My work has a good position in gallery, main room when you walk in, on the left, I'll post some photos when I go back to the gallery.

It appears to be a positive start, selling my first piece even before the gallery had opened its doors last week, some people just can't wait can they.

North East Art collective have a website and it can be found at www.northeastartcollective.co.uk

If you are out Christmas shopping over the coming weeks be sure to pop in to the gallery, you may just find that perfect christmas pressie, just make sure its one of my pictures you buy.

bye for now.

8

Saturday 17th sees the start of another show at The Richard Ling Gallery, again organised by the Newcastle Artists Society. I have 8 new pieces in this show.

As well as the Hilltown material there is something new and a little different, hopefully these will also be well received.

I am planning on doing some new Hilltown images, some in the traditional style that you are familiar with and also in a new style, these new ones are going to be originals and not just prints, I will let you see more on these as I do them, giving you a real time update so to speak.

For now, get off your buts and go see the exhibition (If you live in this area). I just know there are a few images on the wall that you will want to take home for your wall.

Thanks for reading.

It has been a while. How many times do I read that in other people's blogs, too many.

I do however have a very good reason. I (we) are expecting our first baby later this year so my life has been one of lists, decorating and all things bambino.

Told you it was a good reason!!. I am about to do some more work on my website and new images now the calm is coming around, the calm before the storm that is.

a Hilltown new year

A new year usually brings with it lots of new and exciting things and I'm sure this new year will be no different, resolutions, ambitions, weight loss plans, de-cluttering etc etc. Some, all or none of those things might be related to me, but for now from myself here is a new Hilltown, simply called 'Nightowl'.

Looks like a pleasant and clear night in a busy part of Hilltown with someone burning the midnight oil, can you see the nightowl amongst the busy hills of Hilltown.

Check out the full image on my website.

Lots of new works this year and lots of great things planned for 2010, will be a busy busy year.

until next time

Christmas is a coming, now where did I put that turkey?

With the festive season upon us now and no escaping the crowds of manic shoppers. Just thought I'd update my website with a new image on the home page , It's of a new Hilltown image I've just finished called 'A warm glow', full image can be seen in the website gallery.

I've also made a couple of changes to the gallery by temporarily deleting the 'escapes' section, I will be adding these and other works into a new section at a later date, so for now it's only Hilltown images on show.

I've recently had a couple of emails from people who have seen the site and were asking how to purchase prints so I thought it might be a good idea to add a purchase facility to the site, I'll be adding this very soon and will update the blog when this has been done.

In the Frame

A few people have now been asking about the framing of the Hilltown works. Below is an image showing the framing style I am using as well as the dimensions, these being a 17 and a half inch by 18 inch frame. I am using an off white double mount (white core - conservation), the second of which is a double thickness board.

I have been framing the prints in alternative frames when requested but I would advise the frame shown below to give the best effect when hanging on your wall.

Another late night blog entry

Must try and do these blogs at a more eye shutting friendly hour. Been a busy day though so can't complain. Got the new Living North Fine Art Mag for 2010 through the post the other day. I've put an advert in this one mainly promoting the new Hilltown works. Been busy doing some new works today, also visited a couple of galleries this weekend. Pretty knackered now, so might sign off.

Christmas Show at Richard Ling Gallery

Finally back with the Hilltown residents...

Friday 6th November saw the opening of the 'Newcastle Artists Society' Christmas Show at the Richard Ling Gallery in Gosforth, Newcastle Upon Tyne. See images for more details of exhibition and info about gallery. It was all a little last minute so didn't have time to invite many of you to the opening night.

A big thank you to Damian who runs the Artists Society www.newcastleartistssociety.com and also to Richard Ling www.richardling.co.uk who was being a fantastic host and did a great job selling my work, nice one Richard.

If any of you get the chance to go along to the Gallery there are some great works on show by other artists as well as some very collectible Hilltown prints which may be of interest.

Until next time, enjoy the photos.

Getting back to the ocean

I've been neglecting the Hilltown work recently. Just finished doing a commission which was a little different to hilltown work, allows me to be a little more free with the paint, I've done a few seascapes and was asked to do another original oil, great fun.

I Live very close to the coast so can very easily gather inspiration by jumping in the car and can be by the sea in 5 mins. Anyway here is a pic of me in the studio putting the finishing touches to the painting, and the finished article. Like it?, just to let you know commissions are always welcome.

Well done to everyone who did the Great north run today, went along to cheer the 54,000 people going across Tyne Bridge, brilliant stuff.

Right, those pics I promised.

Don't stop me now!

Not to long ago I did a Freddie Mercury print, selling it via a publication as a Limited Edition Giclee print, Queen fans (and I am one of those myself) seemed to like it a lot, it followed on from some previous work I did with the Official Queen Fan Club, selling some other works direct to the fans. I produce these images in watercolour, often working under a magnifying glass to get the detail correct.

I do have a few left if there are any Freddie fiends out there.

New website finally up and running, phew!!

It took a bit of work, but I finally got my new site online. It contains some new work and has plenty of room for even more new works which I am busy with at the moment.

keep checking it out to see what new work will be added. I've also got some ideas of how to extend my site further to include some new features, so for now, have a look at http://www.darrenmundy.co.uk and let me know what you think.
